There was no turkey. No pumpkin pie. No mashed potatoes. And certainly, no Detroit Lions on the TV.
Ziggy Ansah, the Lions defensive end, grew up in Ghana, a small country in West Africa.
“We didn’t have the turkey Thanksgiving,” Ansah said. “But when it comes to Thanksgiving, we have a bunch of different tribes in Ghana, and we had festivals.”
The tribal festival on Thanksgiving was all about coming together and being with loved ones and giving thanks. So in that regard, it really wasn’t that different from the American version.
“My dad, for instance, is from Winneba in Ghana,” Ansah said.
