ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- He wasn’t ready, even though he didn’t realize it at the time. It was training camp last summer and Alex Carter felt he was making progress. He was coming off an ankle injury that forced him to sit out all of the 2015 season.
But he was on the field. He was able to run, to cut, to jump. He knew he was getting better except for one thing -- the coaches and front office deemed it wasn’t fast enough. So they made him one of the final cuts of the preseason, and after discussing it with his father, Carter decided to remain in Detroit instead of head to another team’s practice squad.
