“Heartbreaking” is the only way to describe how today’s game went. The Lions just came off of a great win against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night. The fans were finally on the side of the team, and so was the rest of the country. On a poll conducted by ESPN, the entire country believed the Lions to be the 2nd best team in the country with a unanimous decision. Their success had even boosted them all the way into a mention on Nightly News with Brian Williams. Everything seemed to be lined up for them.
And then they decided to “pull a Lions”. Everyone at Ford Field was giving everything to the team. The fan noise managed to force the 49ers into 5 false starts. Alex Smith also gift wrapped them 2 turnovers. But apparently that wasn’t enough. Matthew Stafford looked like he never saw a football before, throwing horrific passes and taking awfully untimely sacks, including a pathetic safety. It seemed as though Joey Harrington from back in the day had replaced him.
Today, it just seemed like it wasn’t meant to be. I don’t know how the Lions will handle their first loss, but there are some major questions that will arise in the coming week. As a Lions fan, I hope that this young team will respond well and come back with a top-notch performance next week against Atlanta. I guess we will just have to wait and see…
