The Detroit Lions picked up some nice value by trading down five spots in the first round of the recent NFL Draft, securing two extra fifth-round picks and offensive lineman Manny Ramirez from the Denver Broncos.
While the Lions are happy with their pickup of Duke offensive guard Laken Tomlinson at #28, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora suggests that USC's Nelson Agholor being plucked off the board by the Philadelphia Eagles at #20 was the likely impetus for the trade:
And, with Nelson Agholor gone, Detroit was able to trade down with Denver, get an immediate starter on the offensive line -- Manny Ramirez -- and then take another offensive lineman with its pick. Seeing how Dallas took the next step after rebuilding its line may have caught the Lions' attention.
While that doesn't mean the Lions wouldn't have the traded the pick if Agholor was available, they might have thought twice if the speedy Trojans wideout was still on the board,
