In this Lions news and rumors update, the Detroit Lions will continue a trend they started in the preseason, rotating captains each week during the 2014 NFL season.
According to Josh Katzenstein of The Detroit News, "Jim Caldwell said the team will name its Week 1 captains Saturday, but the players who represent the Lions for the coin toss will change from week to week, meaning no player will wear the “C” patch in 2014."
Caldwell says that the wealth of leaders on the Lions' 2014 squad is what makes rotating the captaincy necessary.
“We have so many good leaders on this team that we’ll end up picking game captains, and that’s how we’ll work it for the entire year,” Caldwell stated on Friday.
To streamline the process, the Lions have assembled a "leadership council" this season with at least one representative from each position group. The team captains will likely come out of that council as the captains for the team change on a week-to-week basis.
