Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew has given an indication that the team's offensive line won't undergo as much of a change as many thought it would, saying that the team is currently in talks with guard Rob Sims about a return in 2015.
"We've been in contact with Rob, and have had some dialogue with him about a contract," Mayhew told Lions beat writers on Monday at the NFL owners' meetings in Phoenix.
The Lions brought Atlanta Falcons free-agent guard Justin Blalock for a visit earlier during free agency, but nothing has come of that as of yet.
As Kyle Meinke of MLive.com added in a report on Monday night, "Mayhew would not comment on whether Blalock is still an option, though engaging Sims about a return would seem to suggest Detroit does not expect to land a meaningful free agent at the position."
If that's the case, the Lions will still have the 2015 NFL Draft to target a potential replacement for Sims in 2015 and/or beyond.
