Arizona came out on fire and scored two touchdowns on their first two possessions, but were held in check from that point on. Detroit managed two field goals before halftime, but both defenses took over after the break.
Neither team scored after that, allowing the Cardinals to hold on for the win.
Turning Point:
At the end of the second quarter, Detroit was driving and trying to get a touchdown before halftime. Arizona's defense stood tall and forced a field goal, which was a win for them and gave them confidence for the rest of the game.
Key Stat:
Detroit's penalty problems plagued them again Sunday afternoon, as they committed nine costly penalties for 80 yards. Those penalties often ended drives and killed any sort of momentum the Lions had going for them.
Arizona MVP:
Backup quarterback Drew Stanton played well starting for Carson Palmer, throwing for 306 yards and two touchdowns. The Cardinals' defense also gets a mention for holding Detroit's offense to only six points.
Detroit MVP:
Running back Joique Bell was the lone bright spot for the Lions' offense today, gaining 85 yards on just 14 carries.
What’s Next?
Detroit travels to Foxborough to face the New England Patriots next weekend, while the Cardinals will face the Seahawks in Seattle.
