The Detroit Lions hold the No. 21 pick in the NFL Draft after making the playoffs for the second time in three years, and this team is looking to add an impact player to help them take another step forward next season. However, drafting the wrong player could send them in the opposite direction. Here are three players the Lions would be smart to avoid in the first round of the draft:
1) Raekwon McMillan, LB, Ohio State
McMillan is projected to be more of a second-round prospect, but with a need at the position, he could come into play for Detroit. However, he struggles in coverage and may only be a two-down linebacker, lessening his value - meaning he's definitely not worth a first-round pick.
2) Caleb Brantley, DL, Florida
Brantley is a fringe first-round prospect because of his versatility and ability to play anywhere along the defensive line. However, he isn't a great pass rusher, which is what Detroit needs out of this draft.
3) Adoree' Jackson, DB, USC
Cornerback is a big need for Detroit, and this is a loaded class, giving them plenty of options. Jackson is a dynamic athlete and returner, but because of the many positions he played in college, he isn't completely polished as a DB. Detroit needs someone who can contribute right away, they should pass on Jackson.
