It’s been a topsy-turvy offseason for the Detroit Lions so far, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to be optimistic about when the 2015 NFL regular season gets going just over five months from now. Here are three reasons why Lions fans should be looking forward to the season:
3) Haloti Ngata can adequately replace Ndamukong Suh
Suh, for better or worse, was the face of the Lions defense for the past five years, but he’s now a member of the Miami Dolphins. Detroit traded for nose tackle Haloti Ngata to replace him, and while no one can fully replace Suh, Ngata is one of the next best defensive tackles in the league. His Super Bowl experience will also be a big boost to the Lions.
2) Division is weaker
The Green Bay Packers are still one of the best teams in the league, but they have a lot of question marks surrounding their defense. Minnesota is not expected to make the playoffs and Chicago is a train wreck, meaning the Lions have a golden opportunity to win five division games. If Detroit can do that, they'll put themselves in great position to win the NFC North - or at least grab a wild card spot.
1) Improved offensive line
Detroit has some of the most explosive offensive weapons in the league, but they weren't able to realize their potential because of their lackluster offensive line. The Lions have taken measures to upgrade the unit and will continue to do so in the draft, giving them what should be a vastly improved group.
