The night DePaul upset then No. 11 Providence seemed so long ago on Saturday afternoon, as the unranked Friars took out DePaul 87-66.
Freshman Eli Cain led DePaul with 22 points. Ben Bentil led Providence, and the game with 28 on the day.
Providence’s Kris Dunn, who is a candidate for national player of the year, did not start as he was battling an illness. He did have some brief minutes but only scored two points on the afternoon. It turns out he was not needed for this game.
The Blue Demons turned the ball over four times in the first three and a half minutes — before they had even scored a basket — and that set the tone for a sloppy game.
