Team World wins NBA Africa Game exhibition

MIAMI — A team coached by Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra won Saturday’s NBA Africa Game exhibition in South Africa, 108-97.

Spoelstra’s Team World, which featured Dirk Nowitzki, Kyle Lowry, DeMarcus Cousins and Kristaps Porzingis, used a late surge to hold off a team of players of African ancestry that included Serge Ibaka, Victor Oladipo and Dennis Schroder.

The game at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg, which drew a sellout crowed of 7,348, culminated a week of outreach on the continent through the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders program.

No Heat players participated, but Heat assistant general manager Adam Simon was among those in attendance for the clinics and events over the week.
