John Hickenlooper, the Governor of Colorado, has officially declared Oct. 29 as Dikembe Mutombo Day.
The Denver Nuggets will be honoring Mutombo on Saturday by raising his No. 55 jersey to the rafters at halftime of the team’s home opener against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Mutombo was drafted fourth overall in the 1991 NBA Draft by the Nuggets and is the team’s all-time leader in blocked shots. He was also an eight-time NBA All-Star, four-time Defensive Player of the Year, and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015.
Currently, he serves as an NBA Global Ambassador and is involved in multiple charitable efforts around the world.
