The Nuggets waived backup center Thomas Welsh on Tuesday, clearing one more two-way spot on their roster ahead of September’s training camp, according to a league source.
Welsh, affectionately known as “Big Tom” throughout the organization, spent most of last season in the G-League on his two-way contract. He averaged 10.3 points and 8.1 rebounds throughout the course of 20 games there. He played sparingly for the Nuggets, though was one of the most well-liked players in the locker room.
The Nuggets have previously found NBA talent by utilizing and then converting former two-way guys like Monte Morris and Torrey Craig into regular roles.
