The Nuggets sliced into the deficit separating their current salary and the NBA’s mandated minimum a team must spend by making a minor move late Tuesday night. They traded the rights to 2005 draft pick Cenk Akyol to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for guard Mo Williams and cash, an NBA source said.
The Nuggets will release Williams, a veteran guard, but his salary cap hit of $2.1 million will still count. And that takes the Nuggets from roughly $75 million to $77 million in salary, which is $7 million under the NBA’s salary cap floor of $84 million.
