Nuggets associate head coach Wes Unseld Jr. offered Wizards head coaching job, source says

The Washington Wizards have offered Nuggets associate head coach Wes Unseld Jr. their head coaching job, a league source confirmed to The Denver Post.

Contract talks will begin Friday night or Saturday, the source said.

Internally, the Nuggets campaigned hard for Unseld, whose late father, Wes Unseld Sr., is the most decorated player in Washington franchise history. That included Nuggets president Tim Connelly making numerous calls on Unseld Jr.’s behalf.

Unseld interviewed twice with the Wizards before flying to D.C. to meet in person this past week, the source said.

This past season, Unseld was in charge of the Nuggets’ defense, which finished 11th overall.
