Growing up in Flint, Michigan, Nuggets point guard Monte Morris dreamed of donning Spartan green.
He’d idolized former Spartans like Mateen Cleaves, Morris Peterson, Charlie Bell and Marquise Gray, all hoopers who’d cut a path from Flint to East Lansing. The Flintstones, as the first three were dubbed during their march to the 2000 national title, showed Morris that a path was possible.
But despite winning Michigan’s Mr. Basketball in 2013 out of Flint Beecher High School, Morris was lightly recruited by coach Tom Izzo and Michigan State.
