It’s gotta be the shoes: NBA experiencing new revolution in sneaker expression

Jamal Murray put down the ball and bolted toward the box.

Sitting on a chair inside a mostly empty Pepsi Center on Nov. 7 was a glossy cardboard container holding a surprise treat for the feet of the Nuggets’ 20-year-old guard. Inside was a pair of limited-edition sneakers.

Limited, that is, to one pair.

Ooo hoo hoo,” Murray said with all the glee of a kid tearing open a Christmas present. “Can I wear these tonight? These are fire!”

As the NBA prepares for the All-Star Game on Sunday in Los Angeles, an annual showcase for shoe companies to put their products on global display, the league is in the midst of a sneaker revolution.
