Ex-NBA player Rex Chapman gets probation in shoplifting case

PHOENIX — Former NBA guard Rex Chapman has been sentenced to probation in a 2014 shoplifting case.

A judge in Phoenix sentenced the 48-year-old on Friday to 18 months of supervised probation.

Court officials say Chapman has already completed a requirement for 750 hours of community service.

Court records indicate Chapman pleaded guilty Sept. 4 to four counts of theft stemming from several incidents.

Scottsdale police previously said Chapman was accused of stealing $14,000 worth of merchandise from an Apple store in Scottsdale and then selling the items at a pawn shop.

The former Kentucky star was a first-round draft pick of Charlotte in 1988.
