Denver Nuggets’ Jamal Murray’s clutch shooting a product of preparation, mindset

When Jamal Murray was about 10 years old, he came off a high screen, caught the pass, took one dribble and pulled up from near half court. The ball swished through the net for his first game-winning shot.

“It was like a perfect arc, perfect follow through, perfect jump,” recalled Murray’s father, Roger, who watched from the bench as the team’s coach. “And the look in his eye was just like something he did a billion times.

“And then he kept doing that.”

Now Murray, the Nuggets’ second-year point guard, is putting up clutch shots at the game’s highest level — most recently Thursday night in Denver’s 127-124 victory over Oklahoma City at the Pepsi Center.
