Dempsey: NBA first round short on talent, long on blowout victories

The first round of the playoffs is playing out like the NBA's version of the Haves and the Have Nots.

And there aren't many teams that "have."

Number crunchers and detailed matchup breakdowns gave the first round of games more credit for the chance of being competitive than they should have. One very essential point was missed: Cohesive, top-flight talent wins.

And this season, there is a bigger talent divide among the top- and middle-tier teams than there has been in recent years.

So, naturally, the results are lopsided.

Higher seeds were 18-4 going into Saturday's games.
