Axel Toupane played mostly for Toronto’s D-League team, the 905, until the Nuggets decided to give him a chance in the NBA. They signed him to two 10-day contracts before signing him for the rest of the season. The Nuggets had an option to guarantee his salary for the upcoming 2016-17 NBA season, as he was on a non-guarantee contract, but decided to guarantee the contract of Joffrey Lauvergne. Now that Lauvergne has a guaranteed contract, the Nuggets are up to 15 guaranteed contracts for next season. This means that both Axel Toupane and JaKarr Sampson are on the outside looking in.
