The Denver Nuggets finished with the seventh-worst record in the NBA, and while they're hoping a high draft pick will help their rebuilding process, they're hoping to speed it up by signing a marquee free agent or two. However, signing the wrong player(s) could send them back even further. Here are the 3 free agents Denver should avoid this offseason:
PG J.J. Barea
Denver has long been searching for a point guard they can rely on behind Ty Lawson, and while Barea has been one of the best backups while he's in Dallas, he seems to lose his powers when he's not wearing a Mavs jersey. He really struggled during his stint with the Timberwolves, and the Nuggets can't afford to spend as much money on a backup as Barea wants.
Wilson Chandler, SF/PF, Denver Nuggets
Denver would like to re-sign Chandler because his versatility allows them to put several different lineups on the floor. His long-range shooting ability (nearly two made threes a game) opens up driving lanes, though he is still effective on the boards (5.9 rpg) - and he won’t break the bank.
PG/SG Leandro Barbosa
The Warriors combo guard is comfortable both running the offense and spotting up from beyond the arc, but he's getting up there in age. He's been revitalized in Golden State's up-tempo system and often gets open looks because of the opposing defense focusing on the other players on the court. He won't be nearly as effective anywhere else.
