The Denver Broncos hold the final pick in the first round of the NFL Draft, and after losing several key players in free agency this offseason, they're looking to the draft to fill those needs - particularly with an impact player in the first round. Here are the three players they are most likely to draft:
3) DE Kevin Dodd
The Broncos are looking to find a replacement for their front seven losses in free agency, and Dodd has a great chance to be that guy because of his versatility. He finished second in the country with 23.5 tackles for loss last season and has 12 sacks, showcasing his ability to get into the backfield. Dodd needs to work on his consistency, but the talent and ability is there for him to develop into a gamechanger off the edge or up the middle.
2) DT Robert Nkemdiche
Nkemdiche was projected to the be top overall pick in the draft throughout much of the season this year, but some off-field red flags could drop him out of the first round. The Broncos won't let that happen. Much like when they picked the sliding Shane Ray last year, Denver knows it would be an absolute steal to get someone with his combination of size, speed and athleticism.
He could immediately step in to replace the departed Malik Jackson along the defensive line, and the Broncos strong locker room would keep him on the right path.
1) QB Connor Cook
The Broncos need a quarterback as only Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian are on the roster, and with Paxton Lynch expected to be gone by the end of the first round, Cook should be the best QB available. He isn't viewed as a franchise guy, but his role with the Broncos would be very similar to what he did at Michigan State - play smart, avoid mistakes and make plays when called upon. If Denver wants someone who can actually challenge Sanchez for the starting job, Cook is their guy.
