The Denver Broncos are officially for sale, set to command a record-breaking asking price estimated at $4 billion.
While reports abound over who might purchase the team, the impending sale has prompted another inevitable question: Will the new owner push for a new stadium?
Empower Field at Mile High is 21 years old — not exactly ancient history for football stadiums, but it puts the Broncos in the middle of the pack with respect to the rest of the league. Fifteen stadiums are older, 14 are newer.
Given the facility’s age, it’s more likely for the next Broncos owner to explore potential upgrades to Empower Field over building an entirely new stadium, said Marc Ganis, a sports consultant who has worked with a host of NFL teams.
