A Von Miller-fueled effort turned a high school gym into a makeshift eye clinic Saturday afternoon for this year’s Back to School Vision Day.
“If they can’t see, how are they gonna learn in the classroom?” said Jina Schaff, a doctor who volunteers with Miller’s Von’s Vision foundation.
Dozens of doctors, volunteers and city officials came together to give free eye care to children who typically can’t afford it. The event at STRIVE Prep/ SMART Academy kicked off a five-day clinic in southwest Denver.
One mother, Maria Deleon, came for a second year after last year’s event turned her son’s experience in the classroom around.
