MIAMI – For the first month-and-a-half of the 2019 regular season, Mike Pennel was unemployed. Not re-signed by the New York Jets in March. Cut by New England in late August.
Now look at Pennel, who grew up in Aurora and graduated from Grandview High School.
Signed by the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 19, Pennel, a defensive tackle, has started both playoff games because of Chris Jones’ calf injury and will appear in Sunday’s Super Bowl against San Francisco.
“It’s been crazy and surreal,” Pennel said. “I’m waking up and it still feels like I’m in a dream, but I’m just grateful for the opportunity.
