In Royce Freeman’s three seasons as a Bronco, he’s been a dependable backup running back and special teams player.
But Freeman was clearly an afterthought in George Paton’s offseason roster re-construction. The new general manager signed free agent Mike Boone as positional depth at running back, let Phillip Lindsay walk and then traded up in the second round to draft Javonte Williams to pair alongside veteran Melvin Gordon.
As Freeman watched those developments unfold he kept a tunnel vision, knowing a roster position was not guaranteed.
“You can’t really worry about those (new additions) — you have to control what you can control,” he said.
