Riding their running backs was a formula for success for the Broncos in 2017. But it often was an elusive goal.

For more than three months, De’Angelo Henderson could do nothing but wait and wonder.

The rookie running back for the Broncos, a sixth-round pick out of Coastal Carolina, had turned a strong training camp into an opportunity to join the team’s active roster for the first three games of the 2017 season while Devontae Booker rehabbed from a wrist injury.

But week after week following Booker’s return Oct. 1, Henderson was found without a uniform on game day, residing outside a rotation that featured veterans C.J. Anderson and Jamaal Charles and the second-year back Booker.
