Ravens tackle Eugene Monroe donated the remaining money needed to fund studies on cannabidiol (CBD) and its potential benefits to NFL players.
Monroe, the only active player involved in the campaign, " When the Bright Lights Fade," earlier had contributed $10,000 to the cause. On Thursday, he contributed another estimated $60,000 to the studies.
The campaign, led by Colorado hemp producer CW Botanicals and its partnering nonprofit the Realm of Caring, plans to see if CBD, a nonpsychoactive compound from cannabis, is a viable alternative to the potent prescription painkillers players currently receive by teams, and to eventually examine its potential benefits in alleviating symptoms of concussions and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
