When Sean Payton announced Bo Nix would be starting quarterback Week 1, he joked that there was “no cake or candles” even if it was rather monumental that for the first time since John Elway the Broncos would start a rookie quarterback Week 1.
“It’s not every day [you] get that news,” Nix said, adding that the entire QB room has been working hard, pushing each other all camp and preseason. “To get that news is definitely a great thing.”
And yet, he understands being named the Week 1 starter is not the same as being a franchise leader — which he believes is exactly what his family will tell him when hearing the news.
