For as long as I have been a football fan, I have always had faith that the NFL would do it’s best to ensure competitive balance from game-to-game and year-to-year. It’s one of the many reasons why we enjoy compensatory picks, a draft order tied to the previous year’s finish, and a salary cap. It’s the reason that football enjoys its place as crown jewel atop the American sports landscape.
While the Broncos quarterbacks are certainly at fault for their non-adherence to COVID-19 safety protocols, what the NFL did in response was cruel. Without an owner, a winning record, or anything positive to make an argument on their behalf, the NFL put their muddy boot on the throat of fair play and gifted the New Orleans Saints a win.
