NFL Journal: Despite proposals to expand replay, owners might not be inclined to do so

It will be up to NFL owners this week in Phoenix to make sure the Nickell Robey-Coleman/Tommylee Lewis debacle is not repeated.

The Rams’ Robey-Coleman got away with pass interference and helmet-to-helmet contact against New Orleans’ Lewis late in the NFC Championship Game. The Rams won in overtime.

The Competition Committee, which includes Broncos general manager John Elway, has recommended expansion of replay to “include all fouls” for pass interference, roughing the passer and contact against a player in a defenseless posture. The rule will not apply in a non-call situation like Robey-Coleman vs. Lewis. Boo.

That leaves the owners to vote to approve the Kansas City Chiefs’ rule proposal that personal fouls not called on the field be reviewed via coach’s challenge.
