Trinity Benson sat in the passenger seat, fuming about where he was headed.
He longed to play college football at a big-name school, but none offered scholarships. So the NFL dreamer rode 150 miles north from his hometown of Lewisville, Texas, and up the interstate to Ada, Okla., and the campus of East Central University. Benson stepped out of the car in the fall of 2015 to begin his freshman season for the school’s Division-II football team when his father, Ivy, offered this wisdom.
“If you’re good enough, they’ll find you.”
“I wrote it on my dorm bathroom mirror,” Benson said, “and then I went to work.
