Sitting in a room by himself to ensure the opinions formed will be his alone, Broncos coach Vic Fangio focuses his eyes intently on video of quarterbacks Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater, compiling data to make the most crucial decision of his 35-year NFL career.
“I watch a lot of tape of the quarterbacks by myself,” Fangio tells me, as we stand on the practice field where Bridgewater and Lock have waged daily auditions for the most important job on the team.
Fangio is no dummy. He knows what’s at stake. “It’s a big decision,” Fangio says.
