This was not part of the master plan. At age 39, Peyton Manning finds himself trapped in a Kevin Costner sports movie. You know the plot: Old guy, hanging on, defiantly spitting in the eye of Father Time. It often works better in a Hollywood script than on a football field.
Attempting to deflect attention from a nagging back injury and his poor performance in Denver's season-opening victory, Manning cracked wise to reporters circled around his locker Tuesday.
"I think the media should do an injury report. ... I'd like to create it myself," said Manning, launching a comedy bit he had obviously rehearsed.
