It's late in the NFL week and Denver is picking up a guy to protect Peyton Manning's backside off the street. Not good. Not good at all. As the clock ticks urgently toward kickoff, the Broncos are doing the last thing any offense with a 39-year-old quarterback wants to do.
They're scrambling.
With duct tape and the waiver wire, Denver is trying to patch together five healthy bodies in the offensive line. I wondered aloud how much of a challenge that must present in installing the game plan.
"I don't think there is any position that is not a challenge if you're banged up," Broncos offensive coordinator Rick Dennison said.
