Justin Simmons up, Donald Stephenson down and 8 more observations from Broncos camp

Friday’s Broncos practice was a veterans day off for many of the team’s best players, opening the door for younger guys to step up. NFL reporter Cameron Wolfe offers 10 takeaways from the session:

1. Safety Justin Simmons is going to play a lot for this Broncos defense. The hope was that he eventually would slide into the role David Bruton previously manned as the team’s third safety when the team uses six defensive backs. Eventually might be immediately.

Simmons made the play of Friday’s practice by snatching a pass by Mark Sanchez out of tight end Garrett Graham’s hands on a well-thrown ball.
