NEW YORK — A federal judge was close Monday to ruling on whether Dallas Cowboy star running back Ezekiel Elliott can play the rest of the season without serving a six-game suspension over domestic violence allegations.
With Elliott in attendance, U.S. District Judge Katherine Polk Failla heard arguments from lawyers for the NFL and the players’ union in federal court in Manhattan on the day a temporary restraining order blocking the league from imposing the penalty was due to expire.
At the close of the hearing, the judge said she would issue a written decision sometime Monday night on whether to grant the union’s request for a preliminary injunction that bars a suspension until litigation is resolved.
