The Broncos released fullback/tight end James Casey on Friday to make room for defensive end Derek Wolfe, who was activated following his four-game suspension, according to an NFL source.
Casey, who signed a one-year contract with the Broncos in April, has played only 19 offensive snaps in three games this season as the offense continues to search for its footing.
Casey, who had played for coach Gary Kubiak in Houston from 2009-12, figured to be a key piece of the zone-blocking offense. But the Broncos offense in recent weeks has been skewed more toward Peyton Manning's strengths, playing in the shotgun and pistol formations.
