Former Broncos tackle Andy Maurer dies at age 67

Andy Maurer, who started 13 games for the Broncos at left tackle in 1977, died of cancer Sunday. He was 67.

Drafted in the third round of the 1970 NFL draft from Oregon, Maurer played eight seasons for five teams.

Footnotes. After a difficult start to the season, the Broncos' offense finished in the middle of the pack. Denver ranked 16th in yards per game (355.5), 14th in passing (248.1) and 17th in rushing (107.4). The ground attack remained the most surprising, as coach Gary Kubiak's teams have averaged a 10th place finish in his 20 years as a coach and offensive coordinator.
