The Broncos have lost one of their own free agents.
Corey Nelson, previously the Broncos’ third inside linebacker and a key special-teams contributor, has agreed to a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to NFL sources. Though the Broncos matched the Eagles’ offer, Nelson opted for Philadelphia for the chance to earn a larger role in the Super Bowl champs’ 4-3 defense.
The deal, however, won’t be made official until the league year begins Wednesday at 2 p.m. MT.
The loss of Nelson, a 2014 seventh-round pick, saps the Broncos of depth at the inside backer position in a year when they must also figure out the future of starter Todd Davis.
