Place-kicker Jim Turner had experienced a more memorable Super Bowl earlier in his career, but even so, what he witnessed as the Broncos and Denver prepared for their first experience in pro football's big show has a place in his most cherished memories.
Turner found it easy to get caught up in the excitement that had Denver and the state in a grip that wasn't experienced before. The Broncos defeated the Oakland Raiders 20-17 in the AFC championship game on New Year's Day of 1978 and were going to New Orleans to face the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XII.
