Not everyone has been thrilled with the first-year announcing team for “Monday Night Football,” but ESPN was happy Wednesday to tout the show’s ratings this season as an improvement upon its numbers from 2016 and 2017. The gains came despite a reported record tumble in viewership for the final installment of MNF, which showcased a Denver Broncos–Oakland Raiders game on Christmas Eve.
According to Austin Karp of SportsBusiness Daily, the game notched an overnight rating of just 5.4, which may have been the lowest ever for the show, which debuted in 1970. He noted that the previous low was 5.
