A Saturday conversation between John Elway and Drew Lock set the tone for what are certain to be difficult months ahead for the Broncos’ second-round rookie quarterback.
Lock sprained his right throwing thumb in Denver’s third preseason game at Seattle and will be put on injured reserve Sunday, Elway said, meaning Lock cannot practice for at least six weeks and cannot play for at least eight weeks. It is considered a significant setback to the development of Denver’s 22-year-old quarterback of the future.
But Elway made one thing crystal clear when explaining the situation to Lock.
