Just when Isaiah Thomas was poised to snatch the Wednesday news cycle, Joe Flacco and the Broncos swooped in and picked him off.
The buzz that Thomas, the 30-year-old Nuggets point guard, would finally make his season debut against the Sacramento 11 months after hip surgery, was expected to be the story of the day — at least until reports surfaced that the Broncos had reached a deal in principle to acquire the 34-year-old Flacco, the MVP Super Bowl XLVII, from the Baltimore Ravens.
Nuggets coach Michael Malone reads the paper, too, so he decided to have a little fun with reporters — and yank Flacco’s chain a little — during his pregame media scrum at the Pepsi Center a few hours before the Nuggets tipped off against the Sacramento Kings.
