Longtime NFL team executive and current Broncos senior personnel adviser Tom Heckert Jr.’s contract has expired and he is no longer with the organization, a team spokesman confirmed late Monday to The Denver Post.
Heckert, diagnosed in 2015 with what he called a “treatable blood disorder,” was on medical leave for the second half of the Broncos’ ensuing Super Bowl championship season. Heckert joined the team in 2013 as director of pro personnel after stints as general manager for the Philadelphia Eagles (2006-09) and Cleveland Browns (2010-12).
The news of Heckert leaving the team was first reported by KUSA-TV: “I’m going to take some time off and not work anywhere for a little while,’’ Heckert told the station.
