More than 30 years after the Redskins defeated the Broncos in Super Bowl XXII, Washington’s replacement players received their rings.
A pair of Colorado natives — punter Jack Weil and center Eric Coyle — joined 24 other players in a ceremony Tuesday at Inova Sports Performance Center at Redskins Park in Ashburn, Va.
The replacement players crossed picket lines to play from Weeks 4 to 6 during the NFL players’ strike. Washington’s squad went 3-0 during the strike, which helped the team en route to an 11-4 record.
“Their contributions are part of Redskins history and represent an integral reason why a Lombardi Trophy from the 1987 campaign resides in our facility today,” team owner Dan Snyder said in a statement in March.
