GLENDALE, Ariz. – Adam Jones returned a kickoff and punt five days after signing. Su’a Cravens showed terrific range in his first preseason appearance. And third-string quarterback Paxton Lynch completed his first nine passes.
Those were fine subplots to the Broncos’ 21-10 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night.
But the main story was quarterback Chad Kelly’s serviceable performance that could allow him to lock up the backup spot entering the Sept. 9 opener against Seattle.
Kelly played the first half and was 12-of-19 passing for 126 yards, one interception and a 60.4 rating. His five drives ended in an interception, punt, punt, field goal and punt.
