The Broncos will announce the promotion of Matt Russell to vice president of player personnel later Friday, according to a league source.
Russell was hired by then-Broncos coach Josh McDaniels in 2009 and ascended to director of player personnel in 2012. Executive vice president/general manager John Elway will continue to have final say on all personnel decisions.
Russell will remain responsible for organizing the Broncos’ day-to-day college and pro scouting efforts and also be heavily involved in trade talks.
“Matt gets better every year and I try to give him more responsibility every year,” Elway told The Post at the scouting combine earlier this year.
