The Broncos are not expected to pick up the fifth-year option for linebacker Shane Ray, according to multiple media reports.
Ray, a 2015 first-round NFL draft pick with 15 career starts, missed the first half of the 2017 season with a wrist injury and never fully recovered the rest of the year. Last week the Broncos drafted North Carolina State edge rusher Bradley Chubb with the No. 5 overall pick.
Ray was effective in his second NFL season, totaling 48 tackles and eight sacks, but the Broncos would be on the hook for a salary of $9.
